We are a non-profit organization established in 1998, responsible for the social activities of the Pão de Açúcar Group (GPA).

We believe we can contribute towards a more respectful and inclusive world.

Our work is triggered by believing in the change-making power of people, food and relationships, as well as in the human development potential.

We are aware that people must believe in themselves in order to grow and find their purpose. We also know that development is only possible when we include others in our choices. Everything we do affects other people.

This is why we offer development opportunities for people who want to grow according to their life purpose, and who want to be changemakers in their community.

Purpose in Practice

The purpose of GPA is to be a change-making agent, improving and innovating its business practices to build a more responsible and inclusive society.

As the Instituto GPA, our role is to contribute towards such purpose by fostering the relationship between GPA and its businesses with customers, our community, people, suppliers and social institutions.

We pursue the rise of empathy and of individual and group awareness, to promote social change. This is our purpose. We encourage our different demographics so that together, we can mobilize and promote actions that help society.

Inspiration from our brands

The idea was to define and understand the social purpose of each GPA brand, and how it can contribute towards its community. Such change has directly affected the rise of our “Purpose-Based Work” initiative, which has defined the social change-making purpose for each brand.
